Novato, CA--Marilee Eckert, Executive Director of the Marin Conservation Corps, one of several outstanding Marin environmental organizations, will be celebrated at the Sierra Club Marin Group's 6th Annual Awards Banquet on Friday, October 8, 2004. Marilee will be receiving the Hannah Creighton Environmental Justice Award. This event will start with cocktails at 6:00 PM and dinner will be served at 7:00 PM. The banquet will be held at The Spinnaker Restaurant at 100 Spinnaker Drive in Sausalito. Dick Spotswood, political columnist and commentator will be the host for the evening.

Marilee Eckert has been the leader of the Marin Conservation Corps (MCC) since 1992 and her efforts are instrumental in the success of exemplary environmental action and education around Marin County. The Marin Conservation Corps' mission is to develop youth and conserve natural resources for a strong, sustainable community. MCC achieves this mission by providing a diverse group of youth and young adults with opportunities to transform their lives though education, employability, civic engagement, and leadership. Corpsmembers reduce fire and flood hazards and respond to public emergencies and disasters. MCC also creates environmental leaders of the future by teaching environmental ethics and behaviors to children, teens, and adults.

The Marin Conservation Corps is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1982 and has been going strong for over 20 years. It is a great honor for Marilee Eckert to have been recognized to receive this award from the Sierra Club Marin Group. Marin Conservation Corps has been guided by Marilee's efforts and has gained a solid reputation for dedication to the environment and education.
