Marin
Conservation Corps invites the public to attend an Open House
celebrating the 20th anniversary of the agency at the San Rafael
location, 27 Larkspur St. from 4:30 - 7:30 pm on Thursday, July
25.
"We
look forward to hosting the community and showing off our corpsmembers
and programs to the public. This is a great opportunity for people
from Marin to see the wide range of services that MCC provides
to the community," said Marilee Eckert, Executive Director.
Corpsmembers
from each of the 8 programs - Natural Resources, Corps to Career,
Environmental Education, Habitat Restoration, For Earth's Sake,
Education, Community Recycling and the summer camp program Project
Regeneration will have interactive displays and a variety of foods
representing different ethnicities will be served. Alumni corpsmembers
will be part of the program to tell about their experience at
MCC.
Marin
Conservation Corps is the nation's first local conservation corps.
Since its founding in 1982, thousands of young men and women have
enrolled in the job training and education programs offered by
MCC and have contributed over 2 million hours of service to Marin's
environment, schools and to the safety of the community.
MCC,
located in San Rafael and Novato, is a training and education
program for young adults (18-30 years of age). MCC crews are
responsible for building and maintaining hiking trails, working
to reduce fire and flood hazards, restoring wildlife habitats
and collecting recycling throughout Marin. MCC's Environmental
Education Crew is dedicated to fostering an ethic of environmental
and social responsibility and service among children, youth
and community members. The Marin Conservation Corps' education
program offers corpsmembers the opportunity to obtain their
high school diploma or continue lifelong learning.
