History: In partnership with the California Volunteers, Youth Service California and the Marin County Office of Education, Marin Conservation Corps has organized César Chávez Clubs in four Title I Marin County middle schools. Student participants engage in service-learning projects, leadership training, and curriculum that incorporate lessons from César’s life and from the farm workers’ struggle. These projects and lessons teach youth about the importance of community and instill an ethic of service that can students can incorporate into their lives. Students participating in these clubs identify community needs, conduct research, organize service projects, and involve the larger community in their efforts. In addition, clubs organize large-scale service projects to engage other students and the larger community.
